I’m confused. Is it limited to 40-mile spurts of driving? If so, that sucks.

No, I’m sure you’ve heard by now, but it’s way cooler. It just runs off the battery alone for the first 40 miles. Then the motor kicks in to keep the battery charged after that. So if you drive less than 40 miles a day, you use NO gas but the gas is available to extend the range, I assume, indefinitely.
